Planetary Talk

ACT 1

SCENE 1

(A young, happy girl skips down the hall towards her bedroom. In another room her mother sits motionless and stares at computer. Displays amazing parenting skills while the other 2 children play on the floor around her. The skipping girl freezes the moment she enters her room and sees it.)

BELLA

Mom! Mom! Come quick!

MOTHER

(Enthralled with computer mother doesn't hear child. Child screams louder.)

BELLA

 Mommmmmm! Uranus is on the floor! Oh no!

MOTHER

(Snapping out of coma mother stares into space and tilts her head as she questions what she thought she heard. Child yells louder.)

BELLA

It's real bad Mom! Uranus is broken!!!! Oh mom, come here now, I can only find half of Uranus.

MOTHER

(Laughs out loud and rushes toward the bedroom.)

BELLA

(Child drops to knees. Starts crying out.)

Uranus! Uranus! Mom, Uranus split in half!

MOTHER 

(Mother looks for hidden camera. She studies 

grief stricken child. Decides to comfort her.)

 Bella, it may be difficult, but I think we can fix Uranus.

BELLA

(Smiles. Obviously thrilled with the news. Begins to speak.)

Can we glue Uranus back together?

MOTHER

(Guffaws.)

Why, yes Bella, I think that'll do the trick.

(Blackout.)
